Chamber: Congress Should Investigate Trial Lawyer Crimes

U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform applauds Boehner/Smith Call for Investigation Into abuses by high-profile plaintiffs' trial lawyers

Statement of Lisa Rickard, President of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform, on Leader Boehner and House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Smith’s call for the House of Representatives to investigate recent abuses by the plaintiffs’ trial bar:

“While the indictments and guilty pleas of well-known trial lawyers have made front page news, Congress has until now ignored this national scandal.  We fully support Leader Boehner and House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Smith’s call for a Congressional investigation into the abusive and fraudulent practices of some of America’s most powerful plaintiffs’ lawyers.

“The issues at hand go to the heart of the integrity of the American civil justice system.  Where Congress finds abuse of our legal system, it should take appropriate legislative action.  We ask Congress to move quickly and take this issue seriously in order to address the culture of greed and corruption that is growing within the plaintiffs’ trial bar.”
