AL Senator Sessions Likely AG Pick Under President-Elect Trump

November 18, 2016

Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions (R) is said to be president-elect Trump’s choice for Attorney General, according to Bloomberg. If Sessions accepts this move “would elevate one of Trump’s earliest congressional backers, and one of the most conservative senators, to serve as the nation’s top law enforcement official.”

Sessions would oversee all the U.S. attorneys’ offices, including prosecution of white-collar crime and enforcement of antitrust laws. Sessions would also be deeply involved in vetting potential Supreme Court picks for Trump, including one to fill the seat of Antonin Scalia.
