Louisiana One of World's "Worst Legal Climates," Says State Business Leader

November 27, 2017

The director of the Louisiana Association for Business and Industry told the Louisiana Record that her state’s legal climate is one of the world’s worst.

Louisiana ranked 50th in ILR’s 2017 Lawsuit Climate Survey, which ranked every state’s lawsuit climate.

Lauren Chauvin said this influences where businesses “conduct/expand/constrict business operations or sales.” State-sponsored lawsuits, she said, are a big reason for the state’s poor ranking. Chauvin said reinforcing state Administrative Procedure Act compliance and restricting the state’s ability to hire outside counsel can help Louisiana improve.
