"Rickard, Roberts: Sensible reforms pull WV out of litigation wilderness"

September 20, 2017

West Virginia’s five spot jump in the newly released Lawsuit Climate Survey is a “serious accomplishment,” said ILR President Lisa A. Rickard and West Virginia Chamber of Commerce President Steve Roberts in an op-ed in the Gazette Mail.

The Mountain State never ranked higher than 49th, before ranking at 45th in this year’s survey. They have enacted some of the “most meaningful” reforms in the country, like reining in excessive damages, limiting “double dipping” in asbestos trust, and eliminating joint and several liability.

West Virginia can take further steps to climb even higher in the next ranking. More reforming targeting venue rules and creating an intermediate court of appeals, among many others, and keep West Virginia on track to pull itself to a new heights.
