TN Senate Minority Leader Rips DoJ's 'Overzealous' Failed FedEx Prosecution

August 17, 2016

Tennessee Senate Minority Lee Harris (D-29), a University of Memphis Law professor, criticized the U.S. Department of Justice’s “overzealous” failed prosecution of FedEx over allegations of illegal drug shipments, reports Forbes/Legal Newsline.

“The prosecution seems to get a little out in front of the skis here,” Harris said of the case, and praised as “good news” the Department of Justice’s announcement that it will conduct a rare internal review of the case.

The prosecutor who brought the FedEx case, former U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag, who is now a white collar defense attorney in the San Francisco office of Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, told Legal Newsline that she was unavailable to comment on the Justice Department’s review of the case.
