"A Scientific Roundup"

The Wall Street Journal editorial board called the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recent decision not to approve cancer warnings on glyphosate products a “rebuke to California.”

The EPA said it will no longer approve labels that say glyphosate, a key ingredient in weed killers like Roundup, is a carcinogenic despite its addition on California’s Proposition 65 warning list. The EPA cited concurring judgments of regulators in Canada, Australia, the European Union, Germany, New Zealand, and Japan, and said California’s decision to require cancer warning labels “constitute[s] a false and misleading statement.”

Glyphosate has garnered significant attention after a California jury awarded $2 billion (which was later reduced to $86 million) in a case that alleged Roundup caused cancer.
