  • California Chamber Adjusts Argument Against Coffee-Causes-Cancer Lawsuits
April 23, 2020

In March, the California Chamber filed an amended complaint that it hopes will help business owners who are facing lawsuits associated with the state's Proposition 65, according to a report in Legal Newsline. The original suit filed by the Chamber last year alleged Prop 65 violates the First Amendment and has caused years of litigation in state courts.

Many businesses have faced lawsuits associated with Prop 65, including Chuck Jones, owner of Jones Coffee Roasters in Pasadena, California, who was featured in ILR’s Face of Lawsuit Abuse. Jones was one of 90 coffee companies sued under California’s controversial Prop. 65, which requires businesses to put warning labels on products to let people know they may have been exposed to chemicals that might cause cancer.
