Chevron attorneys asked a New York federal judge to hold now-disbarred plaintiffs’ attorney Steven Donziger in contempt for his 20-year attempt to enforce a judgment that was found to be fraudulent, Legal Newsline reports.
Since last July, Donziger has been suspended from practicing law in Washington, D.C. and New York over his conduct that resulted in a $18 billion judgment against Chevron in 2011. Three years later, a U.S. judge found the judgment “fraudulent and unenforceable” after Donizger was accused of bribing and intimidating judges, pressuring scientists to falsify reports, and fabricating evidence. A new document also shows that he was accused of continuing to pressure the company into paying even after the judgment was nullified in 2014.
Courts in several other countries have also invalidated the judgment.
