If past is prologue, the use of government funds to help businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic will produce False Claims Act investigations and litigation. While some companies desperately need the funds the CARES Act offers, they should ensure they meet the eligibility requirements, according to a report in The National Law Journal. 

Any person or business that knowingly submits a false statement in connection with a claim could wind up as the target of an FCA investigation. The report includes tips for individuals and businesses, including information on program eligibility requirements, implementing rigorous quality control programs, and monitoring the agency’s enforcement actions.
