The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) sent warning letters to several lawyers and lead generators over their potentially misleading television advertisements, Legal Newsline reports.
According to research from X Ante, lawyers and lead generators spent millions on ads this year to promote lawsuits over drugs for medical issues like diabetes and specific medical devices. For example, the industry spent $25 million on mesh-related advertisements between January and August this year and almost $10 million on ads for lawsuits over two diabetes drugs.
The FTC, though, says these ads can be deceptive, as they are made to seem like official warnings rather than an advertisements. States like Texas and Tennessee have already passed laws regulating lawyer advertising.
