A California judge has approved a $1.15 billion public nuisance award against three paint companies. The judge actually increased the award by $50 million because of rounding changes when calculating costs. Insurance Journal

An ALCOA affiliate pled guilty to FCPA violations in Bahrain and agreed to pay $384 million to settle the charges, the fourth largest FCPA settlement in history. Wall Street Journal

Wall Street is expecting to pay $50 billion to settle lawsuits and investigations related to the mortgage crisis. New York Times

The Attorney General of Louisiana wants a lawsuit that accuses him of illegally approving a contract with plaintiffs' lawyers to be dismissed, saying he only reviewed - not approved - the contract. Associated Press
