  • Judge Dismisses San Francisco and Oakland Lawsuits Against Energy Companies
June 26, 2018

A federal judge in California tossed lawsuits filed by the cities of San Francisco and Oakland against five major oil and gas companies over potential effects of climate change, Legal Newsline reports in Forbes.

U.S. District Judge William Alsup said even though the “dangers raised in the complaints are very real,” the issue “deserves a solution on a more vast scale than can be supplied by a district judge or jury in a public nuisance case.” He said the problem must be fixed “by our political branches” rather than through lawsuits.
