April 22, 2019

In an op-ed, the president of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry said a legal reform bill should be the state legislature’s first priority during its legislative session this year.

Stephen Waguespack said HB 372 will introduce “obvious reform to our legal system that will hopefully lead to better auto insurance rates” in the state, which has among the highest in the country. He said there is a “frustration” in Louisiana over the “’out of control’ lawsuit culture.” A report released last year by the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform found that the average cost of the tort system to each Louisiana household is over $4,000 per year.
