  • Opinion: Let Colleges Reopen Without Fear Of Lawsuits
May 29, 2020

Today, the Washington Examiner ran an opinion piece by Quin Hillyer expressing support for targeted, temporary liability protections for universities and colleges looking to reopen. The op-ed comes after a coalition of higher education groups sent a letter urging congressional leadership to quickly enact liability protections related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Institutions of higher learning that otherwise follow all laws and emergency orders involving COVID-19 should be able again to train tomorrow’s leaders free from rapacious lawsuits. More importantly, college students ought to be allowed to get on with their lives,” Hillyer wrote.

The op-ed also points out that the public supports such liability protections, citing ILR’s recent poll.
