  • Report: West Virginia Legal Climate Improving; Should Stay on a Reform Path
January 10, 2018
A new study from the Institute for Legal Reform, West Virginia’s Climb: Lawsuit Climate Progress in the Mountain State and the Path Ahead, highlights major improvements in the state’s civil justice system over the last three years.

The paper coincides with Governor Jim Justice’s State of the State address, and notes West Virginia’s progress in the latest edition of the national Lawsuit Climate Survey, where the state moved out of the bottom two rankings for the first time in the survey’s 15-year history. ILR President Lisa Rickard praised the state’s improvements, saying that state lawmakers and the Governor “have helped a new day dawn on legal reform in their state”, and urging them to maintain their momentum in 2018.
